Kendells Bistro – Leeds

Visited here Tuesday for pre-theatre (actually music concert) meal. French bistro format opposite Leeds College of Music run by ex Leodis chef Steve Kendell. I ordered moules mariniere and cote de bouef not stereotyping but just what I fancied and Linda had a Prawn and Advocado appetiser followed by a rolled chicken dish which both were excellent. The beef was served with bacon and duck fat roast potatoes which I must try at home. We had the house wines by the glass which were good. We chose from the blackboard ‘a la carte’ but a pre-theatre 3 course option was available with 1/2 bottle of house wine for £19.95. Front of house and chef were on top form unfortunately table service was only average but this did not affect our most enjoyable evening. Then a short walk across the road to the ‘Ipanemas’ concert for a night of latin music at the ‘Venue’. Good location for West Yorkshire Playhouse and LCM concerts. Highly recommended.

J&L.

  1. Interesting fact — ‘back in the day’ chef Steve Kendal cooked a whole host of dinner dishes for a photo shoot we did at the original Paris on Horsforth Town Street.

Unlike most fake food for photo shoots, the grub was ace and we scoffed away merrily all day long. I seem to remember he’s a top geezer. His then business partner, Martin Spalding, who he went on to open Leodis with, is now running Plush on York Place in Leeds.
