Hotel Tresanton

Julie and I had a great anniversary weekend down in Cornwall staying at the Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes. I would absolutely recommend it – beautiful location, exceptional service and amazing food. As you would expect the weather was hit and miss (as the entire summer has) but it was a real treat to be down in Cornwall again.

Julie ordered a room service cream tea and it was absolutely delicious. She had complained that we’d been coming to Cornwall all these years and she’s never had one (which I don’t think is true and was just a ruse to order room service). It was delivered to our room by Julie’s favourite waiter too (a nice boy) so all was well.

Dinner was equally lovely with a not enormous menu but everything looked fab. Friday night we enjoyed Pigeon and Oxtail, scallops, peashoot & broadbean risotto and roasted seabass. Saturday we enjoyed crab for starters then a historic cornish sirloin whilst Julie had wild mushroom pasta. All amazing.

I have to mention the breakfasts – top quality and on the Sunday morning, we even managed an al fresco breakfast!

I also have to mention the stupendous crab sandwich that Julie bought from the little deli in St Mawes. We had one from there about three years ago and Julie has been searching for a better crab sandwich, to no avail. They did not disappoint – Julie couldn’t wait for hers and scoffed it before we’d go past Bodmin!

Great weekend, Tresanton is highly recommended. I feel a lunch at New Year beckoning for those who fancy it…
