Trio

We spent a very pleasant if noisy evening at Trio in Headingley last Thursday. The entire restaurant was absolutely packed probably which for a midweek in January slap bang in the middle of a credit crunch/downturn/recession (delete as necessary) is no mean feat. It does seem that they have been marketing themselves very effectively, with 50% off food vouchers that everybody seemed to be clutching (us included). Fair play in my opinion and they must be doing a lot of things right – it was one of our parties third time there in as many weeks which says a lot for the consistently high food quality and overall dining experience.

It was a shrewd move because if punters aren’t in restaurants eating they can’t spend anything else and I suspect that the management at Trio know that if you get them in, they will spend more than they intend originally – especially students. I know we certainly did.

Ceratinly the bill at the end of the meal was a wallet-relieving £45 per couple and this included 3 bottles of decent vino between 6 of us and a few soft drinks. So all good!

To be honest, the food is simple and honest fare, but very well done all the same – and the menu isn’t over ambitious either which is always a good sign. My warm black pudding salad was very good if not a little on the small side and the main course of moroccan lamb was just as good. Other mains ordered included a highly praised sea bass and seafood linguine affair. Julie’s salad of mozzarella and prosciutto was well worth a mention too.

Top marks go the the locally sourced produce on offer – all meats coming from local farms. Excellent.
