Straight Wharf Restaurant – Nantucket

This is the first review of some of the restaurants we visited on our recent travels around Boston and Cape Cod. We took the ferry from Hyannis to the picturesque island of Nantucket and booked a table at the Straight Wharf on the recommendation of Doug the chef/proprietor at the Cape Sea Grill in Harwich Port (review later) and the fact that our table on the deck looked onto the harbour area where the ferry docked, so we could time our exit back to Hyannis.

We booked our table on the deck for 17.30 with our ferry leaving at 19.10 hoping this would allow us a reasonably relaxing dinner and explained our schedule to our waitress who assured us additional swimming lessons would not be necessary. First impressions with the friendly staff and table location with harbour view were good and the experience just got better. To get us settled while we perused the menu me and Neil tried the local Cisco brewery Whale Tale pale ale while the girls got stuck in to the traditional oaked Californian Chardonnay which it was declared is ‘what we do’. I ordered from the seasonal menu with an appetiser of Raviolo and trendy foaming sauce and then one of the house ‘signature’ dishes the SWR clam bake with buttered lobster, sweet corn, chorizo, potatoes & littleneck clams. Take a look at the above picture how to serve lobster without needing an extensive tool kit to get in to eat it. The quality and presentation of the food was superb. For desert the artisan cheeses, red wine crackers & golden raisin mostarda was shared between myself and Neil with the girls having the steamed chocolate pavé almond tuile, meyer lemon & garden mint ice cream again to share. Timed to perfection the ferry docked as we had completed our deserts and requested the check. I would recommend the Straight Wharf without hesitation and it was definitely one of the dining highlights of our visit.
